Profile bio

About Jeff Seale

During my 25-year career, I have been fortunate to work in the most innovative periods of my fields of study. Currently, I am working on the most critical issue of our time – climate change. Agriculture lies at the intersection of three of the most important of the UN’s Sustainable Development goals – hunger, poverty, and climate change. It is at this intersection where I apply my expertise in biophysics and ag biotechnology to helping bring about technology and policy solutions for a more sustainable world. I led the science efforts that are the foundation for the creation of one of the first carbon market opportunities for farmers and now am advancing that work into building scalable MRV platforms and policies to enable credible carbon removals in ag. Because of my passion around the issue of extreme poverty, I am particularly interested in helping deliver these solutions to smallholder farmers who are disproportionately impacted by climate change. I have served as an expert reviewer for the IPCC, contributed to the GHG Protocol Land Sector Removals Guidance, and am a Subject Matter Expert for the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM).My work in the area of protein structure and engineering coincided with the elucidation of the physical principles needed to predict and design proteins of specific function. I carried these lessons into my work in the explosive growth phase of plant biotechnology where I helped build platforms and teams of 35+ people that would engineer proteins that entered the product pipeline. One of the many highlights of this time was the solution of a scientific problem that vexed the field for more than 50 years – the structure of a full-length protein toxin from Bacillus thuringiensis. Through achievements in science, policy, and advocacy, I work to bring the goal of a more sustainable world to reality. Specialties: advocacy, sustainability, climate science, carbon markets, public policy, protein folding, protein structure, molecular biophysics, computational protein design, writing.

Listed skills include Protein Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biotechnology, and 23 others.
