In 2002 I joined Cape Breton University as Manager of the Microelectronics and Wireless Systems Lab. In this position I managed a small team of several engineers and managed the procurement of approximately $1M worth of wireless R&D equipment.This soon evolved into a Program Management role on the PAWS (Petroleum Applications of Wireless Systems) project. The objective of this project was to develop applications for wireless sensor networks in industrial environments. At $7.8M it stands as the largest research project in Cape Breton University history. During the course of the project I was involved in the following activities:• Established and coordinated research objectives• Developed strategic partnerships with various University research teams• Assembled and managed a development team consisting of engineers, programmers and IT professionals, consisting of approximately 50 people over the course of 6 years.• Management of 5-7 distributed projects simultaneously • Developed quality system policiesOver the course of the Program we achieved the following:• Establshed WINTeR, a web accessible testbed for wireless sensor network development. This technology was nominated for a 2009 World Technology Award.• Graduated 4 PhDs, 8 Masters, 42 Engineering Students• 47 Publications (I contributed to 5 of these papers)
