Leveraging a diverse background in engineering and project management, I am responsible to implement new ways of working and executing capital projects, leveraging the latest in digital technology. Drawing upon the best technology and work processes both inside and outside the oil & gas industry, I am leading a multi-functional global team to implement best in class solutions to delivery projects digitally.I strongly believe that solutions will come from those who are on the frontlines of projects and the business. As such, employees need to be empowered to develop their own solutions and supported when solutions exceed their skillsets. In this space, self-service tools such as Power BI, Tableau, and low/no-code platforms provide huge opportunities for businesses to realize the benefits of their innovative employees. Not every initiative needs to yield huge results! Sometimes small improvements in the working lives of employees lead to huge gains. Adoption of new tools must be supported by not only proper change management, but also a good user experience. Today everyone is used to the simplicity and capability of their smartphones, and we must challenge our software providers, technology teams, and implementation groups to meet similar standards of UI/UX to ease the burden of training and increase the satisfaction of those using the tools.My experience in the energy industry and managing digital projects has shown that we need to continually challenge the way that we execute projects and there is very often room for improvement as legacy methods are superseded by new approaches. That said, it's essential to capture the knowledge and back it into tools from the industry so that safety and lessons learned are baked in. There's a big opportunity for the capital projects industry to look outside our common working models and look to further digitize and systematically approach project conceptualization and delivery through methodologies like Requirements Managements and Systems Engineering. Energy Transition is an area where these approaches are ripe for adaptation and testing as the need for repeatable and scalable solutions is greater than ever before.
