As the Assistant Vice President for People and Engagement (AVP), I serve as part of the University Relations senior leadership team, which is responsible for creating and executing the division’s strategic plan to achieve the University of Maryland's fundraising goals. This includes determining staffing priorities, organization policies, and budgetary needs. In my role as AVP, I oversee a team of approximately 50 staff and a portfolio of initiatives that activate alumni, volunteers, and staff to advance the goals of University Relations. Specifically, I oversee four important units within University Relations: the University of Maryland Alumni Association (UMDAA), the Office of Human Resources and Talent Management, the Office of Special Events, and the Office of Board Operations.

As part of the senior leadership team, provide counsel to the Executive Director in navigating complex financial decisions, crisis response plans, talent management, personnel issues, board meeting agendas, and engagement of key volunteers and donorsGuide the organization’s strategic direction in collaboration with the Board of Governors--Staff liaison to the Governance Committee; create association policies, oversee bylaws reviews and changes, and manage recruitment and onboarding of new members --Staff liaison to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee; created a DEI Commitment Statement and Action Plan to infuse DEI values across the organization; oversee annual assessment and evaluation of DEI goals--Staff liaison to the Strategic Plan Committee; created a new five-year strategic plan; developed and executed organizational realignment plan to meet the needs of the new prioritiesResponsible for the strategic direction and leadership development of the 16-person outreach unit; manage $1.35 million annual outreach budget; oversee programs for alumni lifelong learning, career services, digital engagement, regional engagement, special events, affinity programming, grassroots advocacy, student outreach, marketing, business operations, and fundraising for the 501c(3) non-profit organization--Create attitudinal surveys and conduct organizational assessments and data analysis to make informed decisions on strategic directions--Engagement highlights:----Since FY18, grew alumni engagement by 380% (67,202 engaged in FY23)----Notable initiatives include Alumni Career Services Program; Alumni Lifelong Learning Program; Black Alumni Weekend; Terp Business Directory; Terp Entrepreneur Network and Annual Conference; Alumni Association Blog; Alumni Admissions Symposium; Board of Governors Individual Engagement Plans; Diversity Commitment Statement; Alumni Association Strategic Plan

- Managed and executed the recruitment and selection strategy for students from Virginia, Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia based on statistical reports and other research methods; established and maintained relationships with local counselors, alumni and other external stakeholders; planned and hosted over 200 individual events including informational interviews, receptions, high school visits and college fairs- Conducted information sessions to promote the University to groups of 5 – 100 people at on and off-campus events- Evaluated and made decisions on applications for freshman and transfer students; participated in and led admissions committees

- Planned and executed recruitment and selection strategy based on data analysis and professional experience as a member of the admissions leadership team- Planned recruitment travel to over 80 events spanning the country; met with prospective students at fairs and informational meetings to promote BU Law; conducted on-campus interviews with prospective and waitlisted students- Created admissions marketing publications and digital content through collaboration with the Dean, Assistant Deans, and faculty; wrote and edited internal communication streams; executed mailings to prospective students- Created the Alumni Admissions Volunteer program through collaboration with the Alumni, Career Services and Marketing Communication Offices; created a database of volunteers; recorded and tracked alumni volunteer engagement- Managed the Admissions Ambassador program; created reports to match prospective students with current students on over a dozen factors; maintained a database of volunteers; maintained content for the BU Law website- Coordinated with faculty and staff to set up individual preview days for visiting students

- Recruited and selected students from Maryland, DC, and Virginia; promoted the university to prospective students and guidance counselors at college fairs, receptions, and presentations at over 100 high schools; established relationships with and facilitated involvement of local alumni- Managed the Scarlet Speaking program; recruited, selected, and trained student speakers for information sessions; coordinated the student schedule

- Developed strategies for engaging seniors and encouraged peers to donate $20.08; University-wide campaign raised over $100,000 and increased undergraduate participation by 133%

- Recruited, hired, trained, and managed 100+ volunteer tour guides- Fostered community by facilitating monthly meetings and organizing social events- Led campus tours for prospective families; answered questions; shared the student perspective on the BU experience
