For over a decade the global tech community has experienced exponential year-over-year growth. The rapid growth has attracted more investment, talent and opportunities. The workplace, how it evolves and keeps pace with business growth has been top-of-mind for many leaders. In fact, it’s more important now than ever before, and it’s a constant struggle. While ping pong tables, sleeping pods and free beer Fridays are fun perks they do NOT drive employee engagement and a sense of belonging among employees. The modern employee is motivated and engaged by connecting to a higher purpose, receiving continuous feedback, flexible work, opportunities to grow their skills and careers, work in diverse teams, and work with amazing leaders. Employee engagement is simply smart business. We are partnering with Toronto start-up HeartbeatAI.com to measure and benchmark employee sentiment and sense of belonging in SMB tech companies (30-300 employees). Upon initial launch in early 2018 we will be focusing on the Toronto tech community with plans to roll out in other major cities throughout North AmericaBy participating you will gain invaluable insights into how your employees are feeling, and compare and benchmark your results to the industry. These insights will be provided in real-time using Heartbeat’s AI-powered platform. Our goal for 2018 is to have 20-25 companies participating in the pilot.

    Human Resources Director
    Security Compass Feb 2015 - Oct 2016
    Toronto, Ontario, Ca
This position was the first HR leadership role at Security Compass. As a member of their senior leadership team I designed and implemented their first HR strategy. The first key achievements included the implementation of a new HRIS (BambooHR) to support more effective employee data management, scaling of HR administration, improving the employee experience and enabling employee data analytics. The second achievement was the design and implementation of a recruitment model that connected strategic business planning to workforce planning to build proactive talent pipeline. Increased headcount from 75 to 105 (40% increase) while revenue doubled. Recruited all levels and hard-to-fill roles in Canada, United States and India. Integrated testing methodology (plum.io). The third achievement was the design and implementation of a market-competitive and internally equitable compensation system - job specs, organization design, job leveling, market research, pay banding and analysis. This allowed us to better manage labour costs while improving our ability to compete for talent. The fourth key achievement was the design and implementation of an employee engagement strategy, including the roll-out of a software platform that enabled us to maximize data analytics (tembostatus.com) and pinpoint the key drivers of engagement. The fifth achievement was the design and implementation of a performance management framework, which focused heavily on regular communication, check-ins, OKRs and ongoing coaching and feedback). Designed new processes, and delivered employee training. The sixth key achievement was the design of a "starting point" to a career-pathing framework to support employee engagement and retention.
