I work as independent consultant on international missions, mainly in the areas of credit and political risk insurance and renewable energy finance. Present and past clients include KfW, Africa Specialty Risks, ATIDI, Saudi Exim Bank, Guarantco and the Government of Mongolia. The main current projects are the development of a multibuyer credit insurance platform for the African domestic market, the feasibility study for an Arab-African Guarantee Fund and the development of a guarantee product for renewable energy projects that will trade on the SAPP merchant market.

Independent Director appointed by the African Development Bank. My mandate ended after 2 terms.Africa Re is a multilateral reinsurance company, majority owned by 41 countries. It is the largest reinsurance company of Africa, consistently profitable, with an A rating (stable outlook) of AM Best.

I was leading the operationalisation of the Climate Investment Platform (CIP), a joint initiative of UNDP, SEforAll and IRENA with the support of the Green Climate Fund. CIP supports renewable energy projects in the preparation of their documentation and introduces them to the CIP partners whose products, services, eligibility criteria, risk appetite and geographical scope match the features of the project.

I worked on a platform for international cooperation among providers of risk mitigation instruments that are used by renewable energy projects. I combined this with the implementation of the Regional Liquidity Support Facility (RLSF) at ATI, that also seeks to facilitate investments in Renewable Energy. My current position (full time now) is a continuation of this project.

I managed the implementation of the Regional Liquidity Support Facility ("RLSF"), a joint project of ATI and KfW. The objective is to help Independent Power Producers in Sub-Saharan Africa who use Renewable Energy by guaranteeing the liquidity risk that they face if their off-taker does not pay on time. ATI is a multilateral institution that is set up to attract investments in - and improve the trade with African states and companies. It provides political insurance cover, single buyer commercial insurance, short term whole turnover insurance, bonds and a range of related products. Shareholders include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Madagascar, Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, Benin, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia, Sace, AtradiusRe and the African Development Bank. "A" rated by S&P, profitable, income grew by 100% in the last 2 years, combined ratio at 77%. I was in charge of the operational activities, from product development and commercial, over underwriting and reinsurance to claims. I left ATI in February 2017 and handed over to John Lentaigne.

In this position I supported the transformation of Credendo into a multinational Group whose entities complete each other and whose processes, products and systems are aligned.

Credimundi is a private credit insurance company but owned by the Belgian government. We insure companies against the risk of non payment by their corporate clients. Besides we also issue bonds. Our unique selling proposition is that we can insure medium term risk (up to 2 years) and that we are specialised in emerging economies (including Africa). I was in charge of the information , the risk underwriting and the bond departments. I also supported the international expansion - UK, France, Germany and Czech Republic.

As a non executive Director, my main role was to help the company to become part of Credendo Group and to align products, processes and IT applications. From the other side, I tried to represent KUPEG in the different projects in Belgium.

Besides the job in Singapore I was responsible for the whole of Asia. We have insurance companies in Hong Kong and in Japan. Hong Kong acts as a regional hub for North Asia, covering PRC, Taiwan, Korea and Macao. For details about our industry, please look at the Singapore position.

Euler Hermes insures medium size and large companies against the risk of non payment by their corporate clients. Based in Paris, S&P AA-, listed on the Paris stock exchange, part of Allianz.I started the company in 2000 and organised the marketing and delivery of credit insurance solutions. These include the assessment of creditworthiness of companies, the management of overdue payments that are reported by clients -including active debt collection - and the payment of the claims. In the first 3 years we rolled out the concept and the services in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Now we also have teams in India, UAE (covering the Gulf), Philippines and Indonesia.I was combining this function with the over-all responsibility for Asia.

A wonderful start-up experience. I represented Euler Hermes in the management of this joint venture of Euler Hermes Belgium (COBAC) and Ceska Pojistovna. The company started in 1997 and I was in charge of the set up of the information database and the risk underwriting. I recruited and developed the team to assess the creditworthiness of Czech and Slovak companies and to decide on the risk we would take over from our corporate clients. Besides I contributed to the financial management and the set-up of debt collection.

In charge of Human Resources and General Services (logistics). Besides the day to day management, I was actively involved in the acquisition and transformation of London Bridge Finance, a department of UK based Hill Samuel bank, into a credit insurance company. The company was later sold to Coface.

JP Morgan (at that time Morgan Guaranty Trust Cy of New York) was an investment bank, but also the manager of Euroclear, the world leading clearing house for internationally traded securities. 800 staff when I left, mainly university graduates.I was in charge of the recruitment, training, manpower planning, succession planning and all the other "soft" parts of human resources.

In charge of Human Resources, safety and security. P.E.M. was an assembly plant for HI Fi and car stereo, with about 400 staff. Besides the set-up of the HR and safety departments, I was actively involved in the restructuration of the company in 1984, day-to-day labour relations, and the improvement of communications between the Japanese and Belgian managers. My first experience in cross-cultural issues.
