I am inspired by people, stories and living outside of the box. I previously had successful careers in the entrepreneurial digital, social media and maritime industries. I broke into the digital world at 13, when I created a website about ‘bluejacking’ which attracted 150,000 page views per day. At 15 I had my first book published - 'How Teenagers Think', an insider's guide for parents about bringing up teenagers. I've spoken at conferences around Europe focusing on how young people use technology, held senior roles within award-winning agencies and undertaken freelance digital strategy consultancy for my own clients. I've also owned, sailed and lived aboard four of my own boats. I began volunteering with sail training charities, taking groups of young people on life-changing residential voyages. I have a strong belief in inspiring and encouraging young people. I won a bursary to do my RYA Yachtmaster Offshore and have worked on a range of traditional vessels and for sail training charities. I combined 10 years experience within the marine industry, and 15 years experience of emerging digital and social technologies, and set up a business SaltyJobs.co - inspiring people to work in the marine industry.In 2018 my life turned upside down after experiencing trauma at work on a boat, which led to complex childhood trauma coming to the surface. I realise this had been overlooked, invalidated and misdiagnosed my whole life, despite seeking help from all sorts of professionals. I am now absolutely passionate about dedicating my life to raising awareness of complex trauma, emotional flashbacks, and advoacting for the trauma-informed healthcare system we need. I do this through my community organisation Eyes On Trauma, as a lived experience advisor, creating & printing emotional flashback cards and seeking funding for a PhD. We are all suffering from the effects of trauma, individually and/or collectively, whether we recognise it or not. The evidence already exists for the change we need, and I'm going to be a part of that.
