  • Institute Mihajlo Pupin
    Project Lead
Institute Mihajlo Pupin Dec 2021 - Present
    Belgrade, Serbia
In this role, I've been tasked with leading and organizing a team of researchers from IMP towards successful completion of two EU-funded innovation actions while maintaining cooperation with our external partner companies and academic institutions and also continuing to work on research in the domain of operational optimization applications in the energy domain as well as various data-based analytical solutions. The projects I led include:- REACT (11M EUR budget - Cloud solution for energy management of energy communities powered by renewable energy in remote geographical islands)- FEDECOM (10M EUR budget - Cloud platform for DSOs and aggregators to manage federated hybrid energy communities)Key aspects of technical work in this role:- Working with time series data in the energy domain (analytics and statistics, ML applications, visualization, etc.) in combination with (No)SQL databases and REST API services. - Development of operational optimization for determining optimum energy management strategies.- Development of various custom web-based data visualization dashboards for real-time data monitoring and data quality analysis.- Light server deployment of developed services and their maintenance with DB integration.Of note in this period is my extensive involvement in the IDEAS EU project (also followed by the ECHO project) with the main goal of developing an AI-powered optimization system to aid lower-level control algorithms for multisource heat pump systems. This research topic has also provided the inspiration for my PhD thesis and papers published in highly-rated scientific journals.
  • Institute Mihajlo Pupin
    Junior Researcher
Institute Mihajlo Pupin Sep 2018 - Dec 2021
    Belgrade, Serbia
As a junior researcher, I have worked on (micro)service design, development, deployment and maintenance in the context of several research projects funded by the European Union. These include:- InBetween: Development of a cloud platform for handling smart home data and user interactions. My role: Developing an appliance use scheduler and energy use benchmarking backend services.- RESPOND: Creation of a cloud platform for residential energy demand response integration. My role: Developing an energy optimization algorithm via MILP and analysis of obtained data.- REACT: Development of a cloud solution for energy management of energy communities powered by renewable energy in remote geographical islands. My role: Development, deployment and maintenance of an optimization service for remote inverter controls based on ML-generated energy forecasts.- HESTIA: Creation of a decentralized multi-agent optimization approach for smart homes. My role: Developing individual agent node optimization services and advancements of user energy benchmarking approaches. The technologies utilized for service development were mainly based on a Python core with corresponding libraries depending on the particular use case (Numpy, Pandas & SciPy for data analytics, SciKit Lear and Keras for ML applications, mip & cvxpy for optimization, TESPy for thermal modeling, etc.). Service deployment was usually handled via Docker containers integrated with MySQL DBs for static data and Influx NoSQL DB for timeseries data. for services requiring an API for communication, I have utilized Flask while also producing several dashboards powered by Bokeh and Plotly's Dash framework. In addition to my development responsibilities, I have maintained frequent verbal and written communication with colleagues from partnering institutions throughout Europe, constantly iterating on the design, making improvements and resolving issues. During my work in this role, I have also published multiple research papers.
  • Institute Mihajlo Pupin
    Research Intern
Institute Mihajlo Pupin Jul 2018 - Sep 2018
    Belgrade
As a research intern, my tasks were mainly related to maintaining and extending the functionality of the proprietary multi-criteria energy optimization tool for planning of new and assessment of existing renewable installations. In time, the workload has evolved into porting the Matlab implantation to a Python-based one and, by extension, reconfiguring the tool to a more service-oriented format. The related research effort has resulting in a journal paper titled "Demand-Side Flexibility Impact on Prosumer Energy System Planning".
  • University Of Belgrade, School Of Electrical Engineering
    Laboratory Demonstrator
University Of Belgrade, School Of Electrical Engineering Nov 2015 - Nov 2018
    Belgrade, Serbia
As a part of the course "Laboratory Experiments in Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering" (mandatory course, fist year, second semester), older students are hired to help professors and assistants with the preparation of experiments, creating equipment, validating instruments, and general laboratory maintenance.Laboratory demonstrators are also tasked with validating if a student is well prepared for the exercise he is about to take part in, and if so, to guide the student trough the experiment with brief instructions about the instruments and measurement steps necessary to complete the exercise.A team of students hired to help prepare the laboratory for the course, during the winter of 2016, which I was a part of, has been commended by prof. Antonije Đorđević, Ph.D, and his co-authors in the preface of the official laboratory textbook. For more information, please refer to professor Antonije Đorđević, Ph.D.
  • University Of Belgrade, School Of Electrical Engineering
    Laboratory Demonstrator
University Of Belgrade, School Of Electrical Engineering Oct 2016 - Oct 2018
    Belgrade, Serbia
As a part of the OOP course (optional course, third semester, second year) students are tasked with solving three homework assignments and a larger project assignment. These assignments are then tested and presented to a team of demonstrators, consisting of my colleagues and I, after witch they are graded by the demonstrator team. For more information, please refer to Nemanja Kojić, PhD and former assistent on the OOP course.
  • Educational Centre
    Physics Teacher
Educational Centre "Korak Napred" Oct 2016 - Oct 2018
    Belgrade, Serbia
As a Physics teacher, I was tasked with teaching two year-long courses: preparation for the entrance exam at the School of Electrical Engineering and preparation for physics competitions at the high-school level. I also held multiple private classes in addition to the mentioned group classes. For more information please refer to Ivan Elčić, founder and head professor at Educational Center "Korak napred" or visit http://www.koraknapred.rs/.
  • Informatika A.D.
    R&D Intern
    Informatika A.D. Jun 2017 - Jul 2017
    Serbia
During my internship at Informatika A.D, my team and I were acquainted with their integrated components lineup, PSUs and PLCs. We were also shown techniques used to program (PLCworks) and oversee (infoSCADA) industrial processes powered by their PLC lineup. We were also tasked with implementing a couple of servo-circuits using the Arduino controllers, simple sensors and various motor types of low power demonstrating Arduino's vast range of abilities.
  • Sol - Serbian Object Laboratories
    Assistant Software Engineer
Sol - Serbian Object Laboratories Jul 2016 - Oct 2016
    Serbia
As part of the summer internship program, my colleagues and I were tasked with developing a custom testing framework set to verify functionality and test performance of the company's capsule-based javascript user interface library for large scale web applications, incorporating various features. After the testing phase was completed, our tasks evolved into programming GUI elements using the said library based on HTML user input and output elements. For more information, please refer to prof.
