Thanks!I hold a master degree in Cognitive Science (University Nijmegen, 2000) and a Phd in Industrial Design (Eindhoven University of Technology, 2013). I research embodied theories of sensemaking (cognition) in relation to interaction design. Currently I am investigating interactive technologies supporting participatory sensemaking in neurodiverse contexts, in particular focusing on interactions between autistic and non-autistic persons. (In other words: how interactive things may help autistic and non-autistic people in nonverbal communication)I initiated and co-lead the 1.4M NWO and Sia-Raak funded project Design your Life. We developed a toolkit to support young autistic adults in designing their own supportive tools and environments (with HAN university and several partners in health care and creative instustries).I conduct Participatory design and Research-through-Design. I use participatory design projects as a tool for investigating complex and nuanced relations between human sensemaking (cognition) and designed artifacts, focusing on lived experience, the lifeworld, supportive technologies, learning, development, neurodiversity, neuro-normativity and ethics. My Phd work applied Embodied Cognition Theory to the design of mixed physical-digital interactive systems. We developed two systems to support shared sensemaking in multistakeholder creative sessions, and I still have a line of research on how to support multistakeholder creative workshops with tangible tools and things. I have supervised bachelor and master and Phd students, in Twente and elsewhere, and I served as phd examiner at TU Eindhoven, TU-Delft, UCL, Milan Politecnico, TU Wien, KTH Stockholm and RMIT.See my full publication list on www.jellevandijk.org I also draw comics.
