About Benjamin Jelle Visser

I am an internist-infectiologist with a focus on tropical medicine and travel medicine. I currently work at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp and the University Hospital Antwerp (UZA), where my main goal is to provide excellent care for patients. Furthermore, I obtained a DTM&H at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and a public health degree in Infectious Diseases and Public Health (VU University), and completed my PhD on malaria (‘Fats & Fakes, towards improved control of malaria’). I have gained valuable experience working in several African countries, and my aim is to provide sustainable care and to reduce social inequalities. In addition to my clinical work, I am involved in research in tropical medicine and consultancy services in the areas of tropical diseases, travel medicine, and HIV-care. I have published several peer-reviewed papers and presented my work at international conferences. I am also actively involved in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a passionate advocate for improving health outcomes, I strive to provide high-quality evidence-based care for my patients and support the development of sustainable health systems in high and low-resource settings.
