• Served as a data and analytics specialist CE for the insurance sub-vertical on the Financial Services Select team, supporting the largest insurance companies in the United States.• Successfully drafted and presented a multi-faceted data modernization design proposal for one of the largest retirement benefits providers in the US. This resulted in an execution partnership with a large Global Services Integrator that is currently underway, and trusted advisor status from executive leadership within the company.• Posted a number of blogs to the Google Medium publication on data strategy for highly-regulated and risk-averse companies. • Served as USAA’s Cloud Data Architect• Served on the Cloud Architecture Review board, a committee that reviews and approves all architecturally significant cloud implementations at USAA.• Composed highly-circulated internal white-paper articulating USAA’s stance on sensitive data management in the cloud, drafted in response to a major breach in the financial services industry in 2019. In it were specific steps USAA is taking to ensure a similar event does not happen to us.• Architect of USAA’s managed batch data pipeline, which includes the scanning, securing, and classification of data on-prem prior to movement to S3 using AWS Datasync.• Data movement architect for USAA’s cloud data strategy, including streaming and batch data movement. Primary focus is a modern layered data strategy that includes raw and conformed layers utilizing cloud-native tools.• Leading research on USAA’s next-generation ETL tooling, focused on AWS Glue, dbt, and Matillion.• Architect for USAA’s Information Lifecycle Management practice.

• Created and orchestrated the end-to-end architecture for the bank• Was able to sell this vision both up to bank and analytics leadership, and down to the software engineering team. This architecture was then adopted and is being applied in other areas of the company, including money movement, distribution analytics, and the investment management company.• Led initiatives to migrate the analytics platform to the cloud. Led an effort that took an entire line of business and moved to Snowflake on AWS and BigQuery on GCP, comparing and contrasting that to the current on-prem analytical appliance footprint. Worked across various areas of the company to get this accomplished, including Information Security, Privacy Office, networking, platform infrastructure, and more.• Architected the bank’s General Purpose Data Mart, which became the authoritative truth for bank data across the entire organization.• Worked closely with the enterprise architecture team, influencing key stakeholders on decisions that affected the bank data and analytics domain.• Head of the bank analytics review board, a forum that reviews the design of every feature that is implemented.• Led the data protection strategy at USAA, including evaluating software vendors, communicating the roadmap, and influencing key stakeholders in the Chief Data Office and the Privacy Office.• Was a guest lecturer for Arizona State University’s data and analytics program, and guest speaker for ASU’s Department of Information Systems Club (DISC).• Architect of the streaming data pipeline for the bank, which includes streaming credit and debit card transaction data into Kafka topics and consuming into real-time decisioning applications.

• Set the technology direction for P&C Data and Analytics with consistent messaging to key stakeholders, including both business and IT executives.• Architected P&C’s Exploratory Research Environment (XRE), initially on-premises, and eventually on Microsoft Azure to enable advanced analytics and machine learning capabilities for the Exploratory Research team. The use of cloud technology for data analytics was a first at USAA. • Data architect for the financial systems rewrite efforts, which included modernization of systems originally developed in the 1960’s.• Led the P&C Claims analytics journey from its inception in 2009 until 2012. This included working with 3rd party vendors on a data strategy, working daily with the business in understanding claims initiatives, and developing solutions around claims cycle time, financials, adjuster productivity, staffing, and member feedback analytics.• Led many of the initial and ongoing projects to load P&C’s Analytical Data Store, including auto insurance, property insurance, financial data, and claims.• Led the competitive analysis effort, which included interfacing with a 3rd party pricing vendor that quoted our policies at all of our major competitors.
