    Designing and implementing a pilot service for Shelter, working with men serving custodial sentences across 6 prisons. Main duties and responsibilities included:Training and co-ordinating 40 Peer Volunteers across 6 prison establishments. This national pilot scheme involves the recruitment, training, and supervision of men serving custodial sentences. These volunteers then support their peers in prison to access the advice and help they need around Housing and Finances, breaking down barriers to advice seeking and facilitating smoother transitions from prison to community.Delivering training to groups around aspects of living in the community such as housing rights, managing a tenancy, budgeting, debt management and welfare benefits in order to facilitate resettlement into the community following release, with the aim of reducing the need for individuals to reoffend.Creating all training packages, policies and procedures, volunteer documents, service level agreements and monitoring and evaluation processes for this pilot service, and establishing the service across 6 geographically dispersed prisons with diverse prison populations. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation, and subsequent reporting to a variety of stakeholders including Shelter, prison governors, peer volunteers, funders, think tanks and partner organisations, and potential funders.

    Designing, implementing and promoting a new one-stop-shop service as part of a Ministry of Justice (MOJ) nationwide strategy around female offenders, based on the findings of the Corston Report. Increasing capacity of the organisation, staff, volunteers and outside agencies to facilitate support, advice and advocate for women who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual violence, or sexual exploitation.Supporting women experiencing domestic or sexual abuse who are in touch with the Criminal Justice System, or who are at risk of offending or re-offending, working with women on a one-to-one basis, as well as organising group work, and running drop-in sessions.Undertaking risk assessments and completing CAADA MARAC risk assessments in all domestic violence, sexual violence, stalking or honour based violence cases. Representing cases at Multi-Agency Working alongside the MOJ to develop appropriate monitoring and evaluation processes and reporting streams.Working with both statutory and non-statutory agencies and women's rights organisations, attending DV forums and ‘Safe Exit’ from sex working forums, contributing to local and national consultations, and affecting change in the treatment of, and approach towards, vulnerable women including sex workers, drug users, and women who have experienced sexual abuse or violence, by the police, probation, courts, and the NHS. Working with academic institutions to build on the research of the Corston Report, and feeding learning back to the MoJ. Challenging gender discrepancies in the Criminal Justice System both locally and nationally and promoting changes in the treatment and sentencing of women.Developing initiatives to promote peer support, including the development of a ‘Sharing Group’ and the ‘Domestic Violence Survivor Network’.Establishing avenues for civil engagement and providing and an enabling environment for women in contact with the Criminal Justice System to participate in wider debates.
