I have enjoyed a variety of responsibilities within the cricket sector, from my earlier years coaching and managing teams at grassroots level, to my current roles that have provided me with opportunities in the professional game, such as travelling to the T20 World Cup in India as an Analyst, and commentating on the radio for the Southern Vipers, to help raise the profile of the female game.My career journey has been a combination of following my passion for sport whilst using my mathematical and data analysis skills and enthusiasm. I have a degree in both Sports Science and Mathematics with Statistics to underpin my knowledge in these areas. I enjoy the challenge of presenting data to different audiences. Recently I worked at De La Rue as a Resource Manager, which was a data analyst role where I reported findings to senior managers, who were used to working with data and infographic reports on a daily basis, and therefore would drill down into my reports. At the other end of this particular spectrum, I have delivered presentations to stakeholders that have no background or experience in data analysis. When working freelance for Kent and Derbyshire County Cricket Club, I needed to deliver key statistical findings to people that had a career being a professional cricketer, now turned professional coach. This required me to develop my interpersonal and presentation skills (both written and verbal) to understand and focus on the end result of the analysis I produce, and how I need to get my point across effectively by ensuring it is delivered in an appropriate format or style for the end user.I love sport, I believe some of my most important life skills have been learned through my involvement in different sports and various teams. Certainly my core values for both myself and what I look for in other people are the same in sport as they are in a workplace or just in general life. These include reliability, 'work hard/play hard' mentality and when needed, digging deep and doing whatever needs to be done for the good of the team. Cricket specifically, possibly more than any other team sport, can accommodate a certain level of selfishness, and has done so at all levels. I do struggle with this sort of team member - I'm not talking about a batter stealing the strike if it is for the good of the team (Ben Stokes batting with Jack Leach in the Ashes comes to mind!). I mean the player that would prefer getting a century and the team losing, than their team pulling off an unlikely or thrilling win, when they got a duck.
