Jem is a graduate student of Environmental Policy with 20 years experience producing creative programs for climate and environmental justice in New York City and beyond. As a policy leader and advocate, Jem brings a lifetime of creativity to the environmental policy space, aiming to support organizations and communities in envisioning and realizing thriving, sustainable futures. Jem is based in the Muhheakantuck (Hudson River) bioregion, and is committed to supporting the incredible organizations and communities who have been leading the movement for ecological and social justice for decades.As a creative producer, Jem believes in the arts as a tool for systems change and modeling a Just Transition. In 2007 they founded Future River (formally Superhero Clubhouse), a non-profit performing arts organization creating spaces for civic engagement and interdisciplinary collaboration surrounding local environmental and climate justice issues. Now in its 18th year, Future River produces original performances, paid community fellowships, creative workshops, and annual eco-playwriting programs for public school students. Jem grew up on occupied Onondaga land outside Syracuse, went to undergrad on occupied Cayuga land in Ithaca, and spent the last 18 years on occupied Munsee Lenape and Canarsie land in New York City and Dutchess County. They are passionate about Indigenous land back, rights of nature, justice for fenceline communities, and a holistic, regenerative application of Just Transition.
