About Jen Piskorowski

With over 18 years of experience in education, I served as a literacy specialist and leader for all grades K-12 in rural, suburban, and urban schools. My experiences opened my eyes to glaring gaps in equitable educational opportunities for all students. As such, I was inspired to transition out of the classroom and into policy where changes could be made to improve access and accountability. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Ed Policy at the University of Rochester, where I focus on the issues of equity and access to education for children and youths experiencing homelessness. I am interested in the application of the McKinney-Vento Act in local education agencies, the need for professional development for all school staff regarding McKinney-Vento, and the resilience of youth experiencing homelessness in schools. My goal is to help districts become better equipped and knowledgeable about the impact of McKinney-Vento, and how to use the Act to help improve outcomes for students experiencing homelessness.
