Profile bio

About Jen Webb

I am an academic whose focus is the relationship between art and society (e.g., how does art function within the university system? What role might art play in the building of community resilience?); and the relationship between artists and social/economic/environmental issues (e.g., what role do artists play in the local and global problem of human rights abuse? how do artists make a living?). Art is of great importance for a number of reasons: not least because better knowledge about how highly creative people operate may shed light on how to nurture creativity beyond the art community. I recently completed an Australian Research Council-funded project examining this question by means of a case study into poets, and two further ARC-funded projects that investigate the problem of creative labour and employment outcomes for graduates of creative arts degrees.Higher degrees -- how they are offered, how they are examined, what affordances they provide to individuals and society -- is another focus of my work. I am also very committed to the dissemination of creative and scholarly works, and to this end am involved in a number of roles:-executive member of the Association of Australasian Writing Programs (AAWP)-editor of the AAWP's literary journal, Meniscus (www.meniscus.org.au)-editor (with Paul Hetherington) of the scholarly journal Axon: Creative Explorations (www.axonjournal.com.au)-editor (with Tony Schirato) of the Sage book series Understanding Contemporary Culture-executive member of the International Poetry Studies Institute (www.ipsi.org.au)-poet, and producer of artist books incorporating my poetry-curator of small multimedia art exhibitions

Listed skills include Lecturing, Higher Education, Teaching, Adult Education, and 30 others.
