I had a unique experience at Upstate Medical working with the AIDS virus. I enhanced my understanding of gene sequencing by using the ELISA and DNA amplification techniques to detect viral sequences. I enjoyed exercising self-initiative in the laboratory by independently devising and successfully performing an assay to attempt a cell-free transformation of normal T­ lymphocytes with the retrovirus HTLV-I using co-cultivation methods (unpublished).
