CurrentOverseeing the music and entertainment component (design and production), corporate and strategic partnerships, and marketing for “The American Road®,” a unique initiative that capitalizes on young people’s love of music, their affinity for contemporary recording artists, and the growing penetration and power of media and technology to bring American social history and related disciplines to life in the classroom, while inspiring students to become engaged in civic and volunteer opportunities. The program’s overall theme --the courage to create a better world starts with the voice of one individual --will also travel with students from the classroom, into family living rooms and into their communities through a variety of standalone multi-media entertainment initiatives. These include both national and local concerts and festivals, broadcasts and comprehensive digital initiatives reaching students and their families where they study, live and play.The American Road’s core educational and civic engagement initiative is the collective vision of a landmark alliance of more than 100 education, entertainment, business, and civic leaders who joined together to ensure wide acceptance of this initiative nationwide. Using music innovatively as a launching pad, the American Road helps teachers in grades 7 to 10 teach history and related subjects while celebrating a fundamental and non-partisan hallmark of America’s story: the balance between individual rights and common responsibility. Funded in part by two grants from the Ford Foundation, The American Road will also connect millions of students and their parents to each other and to community organizations, volunteer opportunities, youth leadership initiatives, primary resources and mentors both to help achieve new levels of scholastic excellence and to foster greater civic involvement.
