Stay on top of new platforms/tools, test and evaluate the most promising, and educate staff. Comment engagement: Set community standards, oversee moderation team and serve as reader ombudsman. Create and implement strategies that have noticeably improved civility of conversation on the site. Train all reporters and editors on best practices for engaging in comments and on other platforms. Community outreach and marketing: Regularly speak on behalf of organization at local and statewide appearances. Develop network of thought leaders to write columns of statewide interest. Consult on marketing events hosted in our local news hubs.

Managed community team responsible for all aspects of reader engagement, including:Community engagement: Directly managed internal community team as well as team of more than 50 community contributors. Coached community organizations on how to use social media to market their messages. Visited community groups and spoke on behalf of AnnArbor.com. Appeared in a weekly segment on the Lucy Ann Lance Show on WLBY business talk 1290AM.Social media: Directed AnnArbor.com’s social media efforts, creating campaigns and processes that built brand equity, and increased followers, engagement and referrals. Increased Facebook and Twitter followers 40%. Created and instituted processes that involved all editorial staff in social media, and provided ongoing training.Commenting: Set commenting policies, managed moderation team and served as community ombudsman. Project management: Oversaw web development projects related to editorial side of business. Recruited and managed dozens of bloggers, developing processes for their training and for publication/promotion of content. Wrote “Neurotic Mom,” a research-based online parenting column that was one of MLive's first and most visited lifestyle blogs. Wrote business and lifestyle stories for the Ann Arbor News.

Managed, trained and mentored news team. Continually updated homepage, copy-edited site, conducted and produced audio interviews and live chats. Directed homepage and news coverage of major news events such as 9/11 and hurricane Katrina. Served as editorial liaison to eight newspaper affiliates.
