About Jen Gilomen

Jen Gilomen is a freelance media producer and consultant with an emphasis in documentary and social issue media. Prior to going freelance, Jen was a supervising producer for documentaries for public television at the Independent Television Service (ITVS), and prior to that, Jen was Director of Independent Media at the Bay Area Video Coalition, where she developed and implemented program strategies, community partnerships, and large contracts. In this role Jen led the Producers Institute for New Media Technologies, a social innovation lab for documentary storytellers, nonprofit organizations, and technologists; the MediaMaker fellowship program for documentary films and interactive media projects; and SF Commons, the public access TV station and broadband adoption program via contracts with the City of San Francisco.Jen is an associate of the U.C. Berkeley Investigative Reporting Program and a Member-Owner of the cooperative distribution company New Day Films, where she served on the steering committee and oversaw the creation of a new site for the company. Jen's recent films "Unsettled: Seeking Refuge in America" (2019, with director Tom Shepard) and "Life on the Line" (2015, with Sally Rubin)​ were broadcast nationally on PBS; "Deep Down"​ (2010), was funded by ITVS, screened on the PBS series "Independent Lens,"​ and participated in the U.S. State Department's American Documentary Showcase. The project included an immersive virtual reality game and was nominated for an Emmy in 2011 for its innovative cross-platform storytelling approach.Jen's diverse media background includes: grant and proposal writing, program development, facilitation of collaborative projects and partnerships, technical consultation and recommendations, web development, project management for systems integrations, user interface design, information architecture, photography, visual design, media instruction, digital storytelling, curriculum development for youth and adult programs, documentary film, community outreach and engagement, market research and analysis, and communications.
