The charity began with the publication of our award-winning children's book series, 'My Friend Jen', which I authored to provide both children and adults with a resource to better understand this genetic condition, which I have lived with since birth.Having faced significant health challenges, including a stroke and hip replacement, I was inspired to turn my pain into purpose and create something that could truly make a difference. Through the My Friend Jen Non-Profit Organisation, I have assembled a passionate team focused on not only supporting those affected by sickle cell but also advocating for health equality and reducing stigma in communities and workplaces. Our efforts extend beyond healthcare, aiming to build awareness in sectors where sickle cell is often overlooked. In addition to leading this charity, I am an international speaker and advocate, delivering keynote addresses to healthcare professionals, corporates, and community groups on topics such as turning challenges into opportunities, diversity and inclusion, and improving the lives of those with sickle cell. My work is grounded in empowering people to transform their struggles into strength and advocate for patient-centered care and mental health support. Our vision at My Friend Jen is to create a society where those living with sickle cell feel confident navigating life with their condition and are accepted and understood by their wider communities, no matter where they are in the world.
