About Jeniffer Hernandez

Dr. Jeniffer Hernandez received her PhD from the University of California, Irvine. Dr. Hernandez was a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Marc Montminy at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, CA where she studied the role of the hormonal and metabolic sensor CREB and it’s co-activator CRTC2 in T cell development and function. Due to a personal connection to type 2 diabetes, Dr. Hernandez is interested in investigating the role of the immune system on the pathogenesis of this metabolic disease. Dr. Hernandez’ experience with mentoring students outside and inside the lab, including her volunteer work with the Salk educational outreach program, has instilled in her a passion for teaching and mentoring.
