Our first game-based software release (Ko's Journey) was completed in less than one year, followed by an independent documentary film (The Biggest Story Problem) that won "Most Socially Engaging Documentary" at the Eugene International Film Festival. We funded the development of our next game (EMPIRES) and primary component (The Math Simulator) of our Core Curriculum by MidSchoolMath grant awards from the US Department of Education and National Science Foundation. We launched the MidSchoolMath National Conference in 2016. Most recently, Core Curriculum by MidSchoolMath achieved the highest possible ratings in an independent review by EdReports. What has moved me the most from the work we have achieved is when I hear from teachers "I was planning to retire, but I want to try this program with my students!" Not once, not twice, but eight times! -

I built a team that vastly improved internal and external reporting and developed month-end closing procedures. We implemented organization alignment and planning methodologies that lead to a renewal of management team effort and track-ability of company goals. We developed a profitability analysis model by product and client identifying activities absorbing company resources as an on-going analysis mechanism to support client evaluations and relations within our proprietary fraud system. -

We interviewed clients and prepared comprehensive reports, including identifying key areas for development, action plans, financial projections analysis, resource guides, and recommendations for funding. It was important for me, in this role, that my feedback always honored the entrepreneur spirit whether the ideas were viable or not.

ControllerBausch + Lomb Apr 1998 - Jun 2005Salt Lake City, UtMy second corporate job was with the high tech (surgical optical) software company, Orbtek. Again, I built a finance and operations team and prepared for due diligence for the acquisition by Bausch and Lomb. We implemented a new accounting and manufacturing systems and established standard costing that enabled us to reduce inventory by 50%. I was the site lead on multiple global supply chain projects such as software implementations and upgrades, lean manufacturing initiatives and product development management and directed the site closure and product transition to a German facility. I continued in a consulting position for PeopleSoft implementation converting purchasing and payable modules from Baan and BPCS for multiple US sites to centralize functions at the corporate level. It was my experiences at Bausch & Lomb that led to my passion for systems thinking. -
Controller/Operations ManagerZebra Technologies Jan 1995 - Dec 1997Salt Lake City, UtMy first corporate job was with the high-tech (barcode) software company, Vertical Technologies, in which I managed the accounting and production departments. I built an incredible team that prepared for acquisition by Zebra Technologies, revamped company policies and procedures, and overhauled the accounting system, including implementing standard costing and inventory management. When Zebra decided to move the subsidiary to parent, I led the transition of all accounting, production, and operating functions in compliance with discontinued operations regulations. One of my favorite Zebra memories is when we received the largest order to date but our fulfillment house was unable to meet the requested lead-time, so we organized a a weekend "packaging party" and product shipped first thing Monday morning!
