I am currently employed as a resident student manager at the Cal Poly Beef Unit in a job which requires me to assist in managing the beef herd at Cal Poly, consisting of roughly 260 head. As a student manager, I take part in feeding market animals to optimum finish, managing rangeland pasture to meet conservation goals, facility upkeep (includes fixing and building fence, fixing water lines and troughs, installing troughs, weed whacking, greasing gates and equipment, etc.), doctoring sick animals, overseeing the halter breaking of fair heifers, tagging and processing new calves, and taking part in all ranch operations including brandings, preg checking, shipping, and artificial insemination. I regularly work cattle both on foot and on horseback and assist in making decisions regarding the Cal Poly herd. I work under the supervision of Mr. Aaron Lazanoff, the Beef Unit Manager here at Cal Poly, and began my employment in August of 2019.

As Marketing Manager for the Cal Poly Bull Test, I facilitated the development of advertisement materials for the Cal Poly Bull Sale in October. Upon beginning this position, I rebranded the Cal Poly Bull Test design materials and developed a brand guide for all future marketing managers to reference. This involved establishing basic formatting guidelines such as fonts, standard colors, and photography standards. I developed a new logo to be used regularly moving forward and updated and redesigned portions of the Bull Test's website. During my time in this position, I developed magazine ads for the sale, communicated regularly with publication representatives, designed flyers for various events, designed the sale catalog cover for two years, and represented Cal Poly Bull Test in the the proofing and construction process of the catalog. During my second year in this position, I took on the livestock photography portion of the process and photographed a series of designated bulls to be featured in livestock publications and the sale catalog. This entailed not only the individual bull photography, but final photo touchups and photo distribution.

As general manager, I oversee and maintain the health, growth, and wellbeing of around 120 registered Angus and Hereford bulls consigned to the Cal Poly Bull Test. This includes feedings, health checks and treatments, weigh days, ultrasound, semen testing, and planning the consignment sale in October. Duties aside from animal care include management of enterprise members, contacting both consignors and buyers, and facilitating the delivery of bulls after sale day.
