I am a Biology Science graduate from the University of Prince Edward Island. I extended my career as a biology student passed the recommended four years to ensure that I got the most out of the school's education. I now have 22 courses in the biology field instead of the average 14.I was eager to start a new career applying my education but it was slim pickings on PEI. So in June, 2013, my boyfriend and I moved to Cambridge, Ontario to start a new life. Less than a year later (April, 2014), I landed my dream job and started work in the Parks department of the African Lion Safari. It has been an amazing experience and I can't wait to go to work everyday. I am learning so much and I appreciate all that everyone there does for me. I still run my own photography business, Naturally Photography, that was going quite well in PEI, but is now on the side while I am at the Safari. I have a great love for animals and always looking to expand my opportunities. I am a hardworker and always looking to learn new things, gain new experiences. I am patient and determined, polite and friendly. I was hired on as temporary for maternity coverage, originally started at a lower position with admission. I quickly surpassed my trainer and was moved up to reception and within a few months, I was offered a full time permanent position. Since the office manager retired a year ago, I am the second senior staff member. Over the years there, my responsibilities have only increased. Scheduling staff, resolving client conflicts, assisting with animal care issues, closing duties, cash duties, working under timelines, prioritizing problems, sensitive topics with clients. In 2020, I reorganized the structure of our appointment system with the intention of making our testing and diagnostics run smoother. That did not last with a change in the staff structure, but I am attempting to bring it back. There are lots of day to day mundane tasks included such as organizing, cleaning, filing and collecting reports, closing duties and cash duties. With the recent added stresses of Covid, we have had to change our protocols to include restricted access to the clinic, social distancing, focusing on essential appointments only. Many of these have come with conflict resolution, and sometimes not, with clients and enforcing these protocols.
