Profile bio

About Jenna Molster

I have over ten years of experience as the sole copyright manager and permissions contact at NPR. I handle all inbound requests for reuse of NPR material, which requires extensive research into NPR's archives, legal files, and often incomplete records. I draft permissions contracts, negotiate fees, and counsel third parties on ethical and legal use of NPR assets. Every NPR asset consists of layers of copyright issues, and I meticulously comb through them to determine what can legally be used, how, and by whom. This can include complex music rights, freelance and contributor agreements, acquired program contracts, use of animation or third party videos, and fair use. Infringement of NPR's content is also frequent, especially on video platforms, and I am in charge of takedown requests for YouTube and other social media channels when NPR's assets are used without permission. The complexities of copyright, especially at a company with often incomplete legal records from the 1970s and beyond, drive my work. I have an active hand in building NPR's first rights management system with my institutional and legal knowledge of copyright.

Listed skills include Research, Legislative Relations, Program Management, Legal Research, and 17 others.
