I am a senior biomedical engineering student at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), graduating in May 2024. My professional interests include clinical engineering and medical imaging. I am a member of the MSOE softball team, balancing weekly game travel (in season) and year-round weekly practice/training commitments with a full academic schedule. My interest in the medical field started at a young age. My mom works as a nurse, and hearing about her work inspired me to want to help others. In high school, my math and science classes were always my favorites. I had never seriously looked into pursuing engineering, but it only took a singular tour at MSOE and a flier for biomedical engineering to know it was for me. Biomedical engineering presented the perfect fit for me – the ability to apply my love for math and science while still being able to positively impact the lives of others through the medical field. I am interested in biomedical engineering because I see it as the “behind the scenes” of the medical field. I strive to be an engineer that is responsible for the upkeep/innovation of technology that helps healthcare professionals keep patients alive. I currently work at Children’s Wisconsin as a Biomedical Equipment Technician in the clinical engineering department. Over the past four years I have also worked as a Cast Room Assistant in the Children’s Wisconsin Orthopedic Clinics. Through my everyday work at Children’s Wisconsin in the clinical engineering department, I have become proficient in performing preventative maintenance on various medical devices such as defibrillators, sequential compression devices (SCD’s), T/Pump warming and cooling therapy systems, and syringe pumps, large volume pumps, and pump “brains” (PC units). I am skilled with hand tools and power tools and have fabricated 40 container apparatus’ to be connected to anesthesia carts in the PACU to hold catheters of various sizes. Being able to hold dual roles within the organization has been a truly rewarding experience, and I have greatly valued my time and opportunities to learn and grow within each department. I am a proud member of the MSOE softball team. Over my career, I have had the honor of being named named Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) Freshman of the Year, NACC Position Player of the Year, NACC 1st Team All – Conference three years in a row, National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) 1st Team, 2nd Team, and 3rd Team All – Region, and NFCA 2nd Team All-American. As a sophomore in 2022 I was voted a team captain by my teammates.
