Jennell May was born and raised in the city of Detroit, MI. Always an independent person with a curious nature, she was the first of her family to go to college out of state. With her enthusiastic flair for life, Jennell has a knack for turning bad situations into opportunities to thrive and has a resiliency that's second to none.Presently, Jennell serves in different capacities with the following organizations:Hope United Methodist Church, Michigan Conference of The United Methodist Church - Greater Detroit District, Torch Of Wisdom Foundation, Inc., and Forgotten Harvest. After leaving a blossoming career in the entertainment industry, Jennell shifted her focus. She entered into a Master's program at Fuller Theological Seminary and changing fields so drastically has been one of the hardest tasks Jennell has ever undertaken. Yet, with perseverance and determination, she was unwavering in her quest to further her education and life experience. While studying at Fuller, Jennell became adept at doing research, writing critical and analytical analyses, managing competing demands, working under strict deadlines, and she perfected other skills that will translate well into her work. In addition, Jennell has always had a passion for serving others. Throughout her time at Fuller, she also worked as a tutor for School on Wheels. Through this organization, Jennell tutored several homeless students with special needs from grades K-12. In addition, through her church, Oasis Church, Jennell served on the Hospitality, Creative Arts, Bookstore/Resource, and Social Justice Outreach teams. She previously volunteered as the office assistant and kids ministry administrator at New City Church of Los Angeles, where she also served as apprentice. At New City Church, Jennell coordinated several events and activities, facilitated groups of 100 people, advocated for persons with disabilities, and co-created a group empowering and serving women on Skid-Row in downtown Los Angeles, etc.
