I am a senior associate attorney at Shook Hardy & Bacon, LLP. I focus my practice on class action and complex litigation, as well as appellate work, particularly in the areas of privacy and cybersecurity law. My experience in complex litigation involves handling matters at every stage from pretrial counseling to appeals. Before joining Shook Hardy & Bacon, LLP, I clerked for the Missouri Supreme Court and the Nevada Supreme Court. I bring my perspective as an experienced appellate clerk in developing strategy at all stages for my clients.A litigator at the forefront of privacy and cybersecurity-related class action defense, I primarily defend clients in lawsuits arising from technologies used to collect, store, use, or share personal information. My representative matters include the following:Data Breach Litigation – I have successfully represented major health care providers, banking institutions, government agencies, and private universities, among others, in large-scale data breach class actions. Website Privacy Litigation – I have represented a variety of entities in lawsuits arising from the use of website marketing tools, like session replay, tags, and pixels. These “novel” lawsuits are based on alleged violations of state/federal wiretap laws, federal privacy laws, state consumer protection laws, and common law theories of liability. Biometric Technology Litigation – I have represented scores of companies in lawsuits (and proactive counseling) arising from clients’ use of technology that uses biometric identifiers for authentication. Most significantly, my work has involved the defense of companies sued under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act. Privacy and Cybersecurity Litigation and Legislation Tracking – I lead a team of lawyers responsible for identifying and tracking trends in emerging privacy litigation. Bolstered by my experience as a legislative policy fellow for former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval, I closely monitor these developments to ensure my clients are proactively positioned to defend pending litigation as well as mitigate future risks. Before becoming an attorney I was a high school English teacher working in learning development and improvement, and designed district-wide curricula for other teachers. Relying on my background as a high school teacher, I focuses my active pro bono practice on helping juveniles through contact with the legal system in any form—ranging from juvenile delinquency charges to adoption proceedings.
