Hi! I'm Jenni, and I enjoy writing stories and making things better. In this second act of my life, I am combining those lifelong passions with my newly developed skills in software engineering and technical documentation.I spent two decades writing and telling stories as a small-town newspaper journalist and editor. I prided myself on having the self-confidence to be able to walk up to anyone, look them in the eye, and say, "Hi, I'm Jenni. Tell me your life story." And then nine times out of ten, they would will tell it to me. I always enjoyed reporting on complicated subjects, learning what I needed to know on the fly to be able to write about it, as well as editing stories and getting them up on the web or on printed pages.Then, with the extreme changes taking place in that industry, I found myself wanting to try something new professionally. I had always looked at coding as something that interested me, having paid for some online courses when discounted offers popped up in my social media ads. In fall 2022, I went all in on this idea and signed up for the software engineering bootcamp program at Thinkful, which I now have completed.I learned that some concepts transfer easily between industries, such as "keep it simple, silly" and "don't repeat yourself."But instead of leads, quotes, and sources as building blocks for crafting stories of people, places, and events, I now rely on functions, components, constants, API calls, and returns for writing my code and telling stories of a different kind.I am still just as focused as ever on making things better, whether it is through hunting down that typo that causes a technical test to fail or finding a solution to a problem through writing some code.I am a full-stack web developer with a background in writing, editing, and design. My goal is to use these skills in combination in a fulfilling role that adds value for my employer, perhaps as a software engineer who also writes technical documentation and handles quality assurance. Or maybe as a content specialist who can handle maintaining and enhancing a website.My specialties include full-stack web development, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, ReactJS, technical documentation, content creation, blogging, copy editing, web design, SEO, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), design principles, color theory, and digital media.
