Once a “Jill” of all trades for small businesses, and now a business owner, I’ve used my business management, sales and entrepreneurial skills to build Pride Dry Cleaning to the next level. From receivership to an eco-friendly success story, our brand is one of the most trusted in the Hunter region.From our customer-focused approach, to our stance on inclusivity and equality, and our focus on eco and sustainable solutions, I’ve helped Pride become the Hunter’s favourite dry cleaner.My accounting and bookkeeping background, as well as my experience working across a range of small businesses roles, gave me the theoretical background needed when taking on a businessowner position. My network, including industry associations, has given me a practical, hands-on understanding of business. I’ve paired this experience with a range of qualifications and certificates in business management and training.When my late husband Phil’s battle with cancer confined him to a wheelchair, we took the opportunity to make our business ability adaptive. By investing in new technology and systems, Pride became more inclusive, efficient, and furthered our policy of always operating as eco-friendly as possible. We continue to innovate with the region’s only 24/7 dry cleaning pick-up/drop-off service, NDIS services, recycling programs to reduce our impact on the environment, and a fully functional delivered-to-your-door approach to customer service and convenience.I believe that challenges bring opportunity, and I am passionate about inspiring and helping other businesses to adapt, overcome challenges, and achieve success. I’m also a big believer in the power of businesses working together to help each other, which saw me take on the role as Director of the Hunter Business Chamber for 5 years, resigning in Nov 2018 due to health. This is because my role was to do just that: all the extra stuff that goes into making a business work! This meant every day looked a little different for me. I took on responsibilities in HR, marketing, bookkeeping, stock take and ordering, conflict resolution, answering phones, and more.I worked for the amazing Libby Dedman, relishing the varied, interesting, and fast-paced environment. There was never a dull moment working across accounts, marketing, and systems administration to support clients. I could be working as PA one minute, and then on the floor washing a client’s hair the next. Anything that needed to be done, I took care of it – and there is often a whole range of invisible tasks happening behind the scenes of any small business.

AssistantHunternet 2005 - 2007In this role, I assisted the CEO of HunterNet, working to assist and benefit members however possible. I provided information to solve problems, wrote minutes for meetings, answered office questions, and handled member communications. I also wrote and published the HunterNet magazine, event management, organising meetings, functions, and conferences. We could host a 400-person dinner one week, and then an intimate Captains of Industry meeting which could involve State or Federal members the next. These opportunities, expanded my network and knowledge. By pairing these connections with my commitment to industry research, I was able to assist in ensuring HunterNet remained a step ahead of competitors.
