Pursuant to Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972 and 34 C.F.R. Part 106, The Title IX Coordinator is the designated agent of the University with primary responsibility for coordinating University Title IX compliance efforts. The Title IX coordinator’s responsibilities are critical to the development, implementation, and monitoring of meaningful efforts to comply with Title IX legislation, regulation, and case law. In broad terms, the Title IX Coordinator oversees monitoring of University policy in relation to Title IX law developments; implementation of grievance procedures, including notification, investigation and disposition of complaints; provision of educational materials and training for the campus community; conducting and/or coordinating investigations of complaints received pursuant to Title IX; ensuring a fair and neutral process for all parties; and monitoring all other aspects of the University’s Title IX compliance.

Social Documentation is an innovative degree option that combines interests in cutting-edge technology with a solid foundation either in the social sciences (history, political science, anthropology, and sociology) or the humanities (literature, film, and philosophy). Social Documentation majors are well-poised to exploit both changing technologies and shifting cultural trends.Social Documentation emphasizes critical inquiries into societal issues as well as the study of recording and documenting theories, techniques and technologies. A substantive knowledge base in a social science or humanities discipline enables students to ground their communication degree in an area of interest that will also give them a distinctive perspective.Likewise, the critical thinking, persuasive, and media production skills learned from the communication program will empower the social science or humanities major to more effectively create products that can influence, entertain or educate. During their years at Clarkson, students will develop the ability to use sophisticated recording and communication technologies in order to better understand or advance a set of social, historical, political or creative interests or concerns.

Specializing in Modern American History, Gender and Sexuality, and Social Documentation.

Value U. is a two-year gender equity community action initiative aimed at college-age women and 12 – 18 year-old females. Value U. works to promote gender equity by teaching participants to assess their personal values and the community values of various groups to which they belong. In addition, Value U. allows initiative leaders to re-knit the pieces of Title IX into an effective and coherent conversation about gender equity in education. The participants will take the lessons learned from these assessments and produce videos focused on promoting positive images of women athletes or promoting positive change around sexual violence and sexual health. The videos are meant to teach participants successful ways to combat negative images of women in the media by producing their own positive images that express messages of self-respect, self-valuing and self awareness. In addition, a speakers' series and mentor program supports participants post-workshop. The project begins as a campus initiative in Phase I and transforms into a community initiative in Phase II. This will be achieved by creating a template and resources in Phase I and a training of trainers workshop in Phase II.
