As the director of System Management Services (SMS) at the TX Disability Determination Services (DDS), I manage operations for our IT department, and ensure that all users are able to access and work on our system, processing social security disability claims. I manage a team of approximately 30 staff. As a state agency working on SSA’s network, we follow both SSA and state agency information security policies and procedures. I work and communicate regularly with a wide range of DDS, SSA, and state agency personnel regarding changes, policy updates, system outage alerts, etc. I led agency-wide trainings and small group trainings. I prepared informational & instructional documentation, proposals, training documents, PowerPoints, knowledge base articles, procedural documents, etc. Documentation is always tailored to the specific audience to ensure understanding. I ensure all personnel actions taken (leave requests, FMLA processing, overtime, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, hiring, and separations) follow current HR policy and procedure. I am the lead for the annual SSA security audits, including a major security audit with an outside company. This involved coordination and information gathering with other teams at our agency. We passed all audits, proving our compliance with all SSA security policies and procedures. I am the lead for all reasonable accommodation requests for employees with disabilities, submitting requests and serving as point of contact, monitoring the requests regularly for completion and overseeing the installation of all special hardware/software. I also handle & oversee our annual IT contracts and monthly supply purchases, and surplus activities for our office. Accomplishments: telework rollout 2020, laptop rollout 2021, new Disability Case Processing System (DCPS) rollout 2021, new printer rollout 2021 & 2023, A/V system upgrade, telephone system upgrade, and multiple agency reorganizations and unit moves.
