Jen leads the Slover Linett team's work in alignment with our mission and values, prioritizing research strategies that pull in new voices, that are collaborative, that co-create with communities, and that spark and support lasting change. Over the past few years, Jen has served as the Principal Investigator & Slover Linett Team Director for the multi-wave Culture & Community study conducted in partnership with LaPlaca Cohen and Yancey Consulting. This is one of the largest studies of cultural participation conducted in the United States with more than 200,000 respondents and more than a thousand cultural organizations participating across the two waves of research. The Culture & Community study explores the shifting role of arts and culture in people’s lives through the pandemic, the growing desire for changes towards equity in arts and culture organizations, and the ways that digital arts engagement have broadened and diversified participation. Since coming to Slover Linett, she has also worked on other wide-ranging multi-year projects with the National Academy of Sciences, The High Line, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Carnegie Hall, Washington National Opera, Ballet Austin, Dallas Zoo, and the Central Park Conservatory, among many others. Jen has been an invited speaker to a wide range of cultural convenings, including Grantmakers in the Arts, the American Alliance of Museums, the League of American Orchestras, the Association of Art Museum Directors, Opera America, Dance USA, the International Society for the Performing Arts, the Association of Science & Technology Centers, the California Association of Museums, the Building Museums Conference, the High Line Network, the Joint Statistical Meeting of the American Statistical Association, and the Visitor Studies Association.

Data and Research Collective Impact Panel members help to design research about the impacts of arts education as well as collect and disseminate data about the state of arts education in Chicago Public Schools.

In 2016-2017, the Data and Research Collective Impact Panel led a research initiative into the ways that stakeholders in arts education currently use data for planning and decision making. Using this data, we identified a set of unmet needs in the Chicago Public Schools arts education community that Ingenuity can help fill.

Benoit-Bryan consulting provides targeted research assistance to meet the needs of nonprofit clients. These services include quantitative and qualitative research design and execution, program evaluation, statistical analysis, and reviews of available literature. I have built a number of research fact databases relevant to each client organization's mission, evaluated research for quality, and have undertaken data collection and analysis for questions that cannot be addressed sufficiently with the available literature.

I worked on a program evaluation of the Online Computer Library Center’s pilot program Building Digital Communities. I was involved in survey design, conducting stakeholder interviews, creating coding schemes for responses, and report write-up.

I taught an undergraduate level course entitled Nonprofits in U.S. Society at the University of Illinois, Chicago. The course focuses on the social, political, and economic impacts of nonprofit organizations in US society. I am solely responsible for the design and execution of this course.

This project was funded by the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement at UIC. The research focused on understanding changes in technology use over time and how they are correlated with civic engagement levels. For this project I wrote a research proposal, ran the statistical analysis, and wrote up the research report.

I taught an upperclass undergraduate level course entitled Urban Government: Managing the Internal Environment at the University of Illinois, Chicago. The course focused on theory and practical examples of management techniques for city government including budgeting, human resource management, motivation, communication, and ethics. I was solely responsible for the design and execution of the course.

The City of Chicago and the MacArthur Foundation funded this assistantship with the focus of conducting a pre and post evaluation of the Smart Communities Broadband Project in the City of Chicago. My role involved designing survey content and questions, interviewing program directors, doing literature reviews, designing materials for focus groups, training focus group facilitators, coding data, running statistical analysis of survey results, and report write-up.

The focus of this assistantship was a grant from the Chicago Community Trust to assess the impact of the suburbanization of poverty in the Chicago area on municipalities and townships. During this assistantship I helped to write a survey, implemented the survey online, analyzed the results of the survey using regression analysis, and assisted in writing up the final report.

As a research assistant in the survey research laboratory I worked with survey project managers to design sampling frames, recruit samples, conduct focus groups, analyze datasets, and write client reports.

The purpose of this assistantship was the development of an Oxford Handbook on Public Administration which would link pairs of authors to write chapters on public administration. My role was to organize author pairings, communicate with authors about problems and progress, and to edit manuscripts.

In my role as outreach coordinator at the National Runaway Safeline I coordinated activities and information sharing across providers of runaway services throughout the United States. I also worked to make NRS an expert in research on runaway youth. This included conducting literature reviews for statistics related to runaways, analyzing crisis caller data, and writing up trend reports on crisis caller statistics. I continue to consult for the National Runaway Safeline on research.

This position involved collecting articles relevant to technology in education and extracting the quantitative data from those articles to be included in a meta-analysis. In addition, the position involved writing article summaries. As research assistant to the Associate Provost, I was responsible for creating a database of faculty development opportunities at the University of Missouri, Columbia. My duties include searching the university website and making contact with relevant offices on campus to determine what faculty development opportunities existed across the campus.

In this position I worked to compile a variety of organizational histories for the National Health Policy Forum. I designed a funding history, a product history, and a researcher productivity history for the organization. This work involved re-evaluation of the relative weights of different outputs of the organization. In addition, I cross-referenced a number of these variables (funding level, type of product, number of researchers, amount of ourtsourcing, etc) to get at more fundamental questions of why certain variables were changing.
