Her work employed a variety of analytical, physical and biochemical tools, including high-resolution solution NMR and hybrid mass spectrometry approaches, to investigate these mechanisms. Research in her lab led to the discovery of a novel chemical reaction involving a peptide and metal ion. This metal abstraction peptide (MAP) chemistry has exceptional stability and unusual properties that enable targeted delivery of smaller, more biologically compatible metals than currently are used. Her lab engineered MAP into targeting proteins for simplicity of use, creating the inline claMP Tag.
