This job is also specific to the legislature. I input and modify draft bills and amendments, check for consistency in legislative style, create substitute bills, and produce cross-reference reports for each file. I check compared documents, which entails checking the sections in the statute database against how they are amended in the bill to make sure we haven't inadvertently deleted or added something without the proper coding. I prepare amendments that pull in statute sections, electronically freeze lines on numbered and substituted bills, and, as directed by the drafting attorney or analyst, provide frozen substitute bills and any amendments to standing committee analysts prior to standing committee meetings. In addition, as directed by the drafting attorney or analyst, I provide a frozen substitute bill and bill file when the bill will be substituted on the floor. All enrolling of bills, including incorporating all of the amendments into the final draft of the bill, which becomes the official enrolled copy of the bill, is my responsibility. I gather information for statute sections that were affected by more than one bill and need to be merged and technically renumber statutes sections that have multiple enactments and find and change any cross references affected by the technical renumber. I prepare the Technical Action Index, update the statute database and legislative rules database for publication, and run the process that puts the Utah Code onto the Legislature's Internet website once the Utah Code database is updated. I also print out sections and chapters of the code, liaison with Lexis Nexis and other publishing companies, proof read and edit the Laws of Utah before publication, and image bill files.

I exercise considerable independent judgment in legislative functions/specialties and perform the most complex production tasks requiring advanced office skills plus a comprehensive knowledge of pertinent rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. I perform functional supervisory/lead worker responsibilities by prioritizing work-flow, authorizing selected clerical procedures, ensuring quality control, and providing subordinates with on-the-job training or serve as the focal point for advanced agency-specific assignment(s). I process a variety of agency documents by reviewing for accuracy and completeness, updating information, evaluating against policy, comparing elements for consistency or logical relationship, and otherwise taking action where such procedures may require independent judgment. I exercise judgment in applying agency regulations, policies and procedures. Originate correspondence, documentation, and other written communication; provide the public and others with information and assistance to complete forms and applications; locate and assembles records and information which may be complex or difficult to identify, and which may require substantial research, judgment, and subject matter knowledge. I prepare and generate reports involving automated processes and thorough subject matter understanding. Other tasks include, but are not limited to: performing basic accounting functions such as receiving and recording cash payments, basic bookkeeping, processing payroll, accounts payable/receivable, etc.; maintaining calendars, schedules and coordinating appointments, meetings, training, facilities and other activities; assists in the training of vendors and new employees; ensuring an adequate supply of materials by ordering, receiving, inspecting and storing equipment, merchandise, commodities, materials, and/or supplies.
