I coordinate a program with a team from the City of Bellingham & Whatcom County to work with homeowners in the Lake Whatcom watershed to implement stormwater management projects on their property.

Firewise Program Coordinator: Efforts include locally implementing and expanding the Firewise Communities/USA Program within Skagit County and Washington State; creating and maintaining strong partnerships among agencies and communities; developing, improving, and providing informational and monetary resources for communities, training and overseeing Conservation Districts’ wildfire education and Firewise Communities/USA Program efforts across the state of Washington; developing and implementing a county-wide Community Wildfire Protection Plan for Skagit County; and county level hazard mitigation planning.Technical: Responsibilities include providing one-on-one technical assistance to private landowners regarding construction and landscape design for wildfire safety and the protection and enhancement of natural resources; grant writing, budget management, and reporting; planning, designing, implementation, and maintenance of fuels reduction & forest health improvement projects.Education & Outreach:Main duties include organizing and promoting Conservation District programs and resources through various forms of media, and at local events; educating landowners and partnering agencies about wildfire safety and forest health; managing volunteer participation at events; authoring/editing the biannual District newsletter; maintaining the Conservation District’s website & facebook page; educating K-12 students in the classroom and outside about storm water pollution and watershed health, and coaching volunteers for a water quality monitoring program.

I am participating in the development of the first official state level Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network in Washington. As part of a 4-person work team I am helping build and grow the network and acting as a liaison to community participants.

A contract position with NFPA to help introduce the Fire Adapted Communities Program and its resources to audiences in the NW region of the U.S. It includes giving presentations, gathering and assessing feedback, and writing blogs about wildfire resilience.

Mobilized to areas experiencing severe wildfire threats to assist local fire managers with tasks including:Performing risk assessments, educating people about actions they can take to reduce their wildfire risk, developing area-wide prevention strategies, developing a fire prevention communication plan, promoting interagency cooperation, working with the media to deliver fire prevention messages

Led biking tours in Skagway, Alaska for cruise ship tourists

Worked on a team that handled projects concerning salmon and the Endangered Species Act, edited and created a bibliography and in-house library for a report on managed agricultural riparian buffers, created databases, formatted reports, developed maps for undersea cable route planning, and worked with a team to develop and conduct marketing strategies and tools for the company.
