I am a Ph.D. candidate in rhetoric at Texas Woman's University, now embarking on dissertation research on embodied and contemplative pedagogies in writing classrooms. I bring over 10 years of combined experience in teaching, writing, and publishing in professional and technical communication, academic writing, resume writing, public writing, and creative writing. My pedagogy focuses on fostering belonging and using innovative, embodied teaching methods to help students bring their whole selves to the classroom. I currently serve as the English undergraduate advisor for TWU's Language, Culture, & Gender Studies department and as a research assistant for the First-Year Experience program. I also teach Technical Writing at the University of North Texas, where I have been an instructor for over 4 years. I have taught First-Year Composition for 4 years and have developed themed courses on writing & wellness.As a teacher-scholar, my research and pedagogy intersect in writing classrooms, including developing first-year composition courses on belonging and wellness. I believe in students' voices and their innate ability to find them through writing. My role (and goal) as a writing instructor is to nurture environments that give them the courage to find their voices and writing confidence.My forthcoming academic publications include collaborative pieces exploring doctoral studies and parenting (Rutgers) and the exigency of embodied writing pedagogies in higher education. My public writing on disability justice has appeared in The Dallas Morning News.
