It is astounding how many people don't know that the "traveller economy" is one of the top economic drivers for BC. Time to fix that - Super, Natural British Columbia is a globally recognized brand that we can all take pride in.

Large projects are handled at different times by different Ministries, so treating them in a silo approach does not work. My team designed and delivered a work unit that was accountable to support the the whole Natural Resource Sector, to improve the effectiveness, accountability and delivery of significant projects.

The Central and North Coast of British Columbia is an iconic area, called the Great Bear Rainforest. This area is rich in natural resources, and rich in conflict over the use and preservation of those resources. I was asked to take this file, and provide strategic guidance and oversee the cross-governmental implementation of EBM Agreements on behalf of the resources agencies’ Board of Deputy Ministers. The implementation was cutting-edge in fostering a true Government-to-Government approach between the First Nations of the area and the Province for strategic land management.

ILMB was charged with addressing a number of cross-ministry issues. As an Executive Director, I felt lucky to be able to lead the transformation of conceptual-ideas into operational-reality. While there are several examples, I am most proud of the approach - building consensus to create lasting changes.

Managed one of three Agricultural Regions of the Province, supporting the teams to shift from being advocates for farmers, into advocates for farming. The Lower Mainland & Vancouver Island Region supports the most diverse range of agricultural products, and some of the best growing sites in Canada... and some of the largest populations. I also represented BC's interests as the Provincial Commander during emergency events, including two episodes of Avian Influenza.

I was hired into the Provincial Government to join the negotiation team for strategic land use plans. While I started with the Vanderhoof LRMP (Vanderhoof and Kamloops were the first LRMPs initiated), I was able to grow and develop into a coach for other negotiating teams across the province. I approached the LRMPs and other resource issues with the same philosophy - somewhere in the mix, there ARE solutions, and I can be the one to help the groups of people discover that point of consensus through an optomistic, fact-based, collaborative and tenacious approach. It might take longer than brokering a quick deal, but the long term results speak for themselves.
