Crime Victim Liaison
CurrentProvide assistance, guidance, and support to victims of violent crime that the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office serves. Duties include: notifying the victim of the investigator assigned to their case, keeping the victim informed of the status of their case as requested, meeting with victims and assessing their needs, ensuring that victims have access to all available resources, informing the victim of the Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation program and assisting them in completing claims when requested, providing accompaniment if requested to appointments with court, hospitals, law enforcement, attorneys, etc., provide information on protective orders and accompaniment to attain order when requested, collaborating with the District Attorney’s Victim Assistance Coordinator to ensure victims are receiving all needed services, provide training on victim services to law enforcement and the community, and working with the various other agencies that assists victims including Hope of South Texas (sexual assault advocacy center), Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Victoria Independent School District, Texas Protective and Regulatory Services, and Mid-Coast Family Services. Perform systems test for the VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) grant to keep in compliance. Training is also provided to law enforcement officers on the proper procedures to make death notification.
