Jennifer is a writer; ecological planner and designer. She focuses on landscape ecology, conservation planning, and living infrastructure in work ranging from urban greenways to state parks, and institutional properties. From the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast, the Mississippi River to the Chesapeake Bay and the Hudson River, Jennifer’s work merges ecological principles with innovative stormwater and natural resource management in site design and urban planning initiatives; considering ecological legacy and function, environmental justice, and resilience in landscapes of varying scales. Recently Jennifer has been leading urban planning projects that center themselves in the ecology of place while responding to community needs and environmental justice and equity.Jennifer has presented her work at national conferences including ASLA, ESA, IALE, & NRPA, as well as participating as a guest lecturer at the Smithsonian Let's Talk Gardens, Lewis Ginter Botanic Garden, the University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Temple University, Worcester Polytechnical Institute, University of Montana, University of Maryland, Columbia University, University of Texas Austin, University of Virginia, Yale University, and the Omega Center for Sustainable Living in their Ecological Literary Immersion Program. Prior experience in writing and advocacy informs her work facilitating dialogue between the social and ecological narratives that inform our landscapes. Jennifer has written for the Wilson Quarterly, Landscape Architecture Magazine, PLACES Journal, theEarthIssue #4, The Nature of Cities blog, and the e-quarterly, Leaf Litter as well as a chapter in the new book, The Landscape Approach: From Local Communities to Territorial Systems.She earned her MLA from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural Resources and Environment (now School for Environment and Sustainability), working in Joan Nassauer's Landscape Ecology Perception and Design Lab, and contributing to Joan's book, From the Corn Belt to the Gulf, about landscape change decisions affecting the dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico. She earned her undergraduate degree at the liberal arts Jesuit university, Loyola University of Maryland, in Writing and History (completing an Honors Thesis in History), and part of the Honors Program.
