Profile bio

About Jennifer S.

I always thought I would work in the creative industry, whether this was photography, art, or print. I was drawn to documentary and meticulously recording what was happening around me. Whether this was an adhoc live musician in the local pub or miles of beautiful countryside to get a single image of a lonely bridge. Nothing is an unreachable or banal subject matter.Working in hospitality seemed a logical move while studying as it gave me communication skills, taught me to retain information, and allowed me to network with all walks of life. This environment has led me to gravitate towards people, not only my guests but the team I work with. Having a thirst for knowledge, I acquired or required skills and experience in other areas of the industry. I wanted to share the knowledge I was learning with others, which opened me up to management within the hospitality sector. I have thoroughly enjoyed my roles and each position has allowed me to develop my skills and learn new ones. Resulting in me becoming a general manager over seeing a restaurant, bar, and shop in the education sector. It was here that I was reminded of where I started and where I thought my life would go. I made the decision to have a change of career industries. Changing industries is one of the hardest things I have done, looking for work where you only have transferable skills does not make for the strongest candidate. I was fortunate and my search for a role balanced with the arts and business only took me one year. My desire to work in leadership and utilise the skills I had developed, along with the business management knowledge I had gained from hospitality, gave me a distinct skillset of understanding the workflow and the need to express while ensuring a business is run effectively. At the core, I believe in everyone and their ability to be the best version of themselves. To have the most effective team you need to be a leader. Communication, sharing experiences and knowledge are key successes to any work environment.Being an avid reader, my bookshelf is a finely balanced collection of business, self-motivation, and arts with a few non-fiction novels thrown in there. Exploring the UK & Europe with my books and camera is the best way to explain my life outside of work. I am still shooting in 35mm and medium format, the world around me is all the canvas I need.
