About Jennifer Huseman

Jennifer Huseman is founder/director/campaigner at Sacred Stone Camp UK Solidarity Network. She is also a genocide scholar undertaking a PhD at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, and is a freelance project researcher at the Human Rights Consortium/Extreme Energy Initiative: both located at the School of Advanced Study, University of London. She has worked as a researcher and activist in both the US and UK for over a decade on the often interconnected issues of indigenous struggles for land, dignity, and self-determination, the environment, women’s rights and genocide studies. Since 2007, the primary focus of Jennifer’s work has been investigating the impacts of Canada’s tar sands oil industry on Native North Americans. Prior to undertaking her PhD, she received the following degrees:* 2006: BA in Anthropology & Communications from Goldsmiths, University of London.* 2010: MA in Understanding & Securing Human Rights from The Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London.Her as yet unpublished MA Thesis (2010) "Unmasking the North American Holocaust: An Analysis of the Ongoing Genocide of Native North Americans" earned a Distinction and provided the foundation for future co-authored papers and a recent book chapter with Dr. Damien Short (see below).Jennifer is a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and along with working on her PhD, she is currently preparing her MA thesis for publication. She is also looking for/open to further employment as a researcher, writer, and campaigner in the human rights field at the moment. This entailed writing/delivering both internally and externally focused statements on behalf of the Union, including numerous press statements and media interviews. Sat on nearly every University of London committee as student representative with full voting powers (e.g.: Finance, Estates, Senate, Council, etc).Worked closely with the London Mayor’s Office, the Greater London Authority, and Transport for London. One outcome of these relationships was my securing free travel planning consultation and research from a firm for two University of London colleges in regard to the promotion of the best means of travel for their students in order to improve their university experience and minimise carbon emissions.Implemented reforms from the previous year’s governance review. Included interviewing and hiring external non-student trustees, putting the new governing bodies of the Union into operation (e.g.: ULU Senate, ULU Board of Trustees, etc) and engaging with student officers from affiliate University of London Students’ Unions on their role in these new bodies.
