The Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau commissioned a feasibility study for a convention center/performing arts center for the community. Based on that study, I am currently contacting meeting planners throughout the State, the nation, and internationally to further qualify their organizations and events for an appropriate fit with Fairbanks were the infrastructure necessary in place.

On Friday it was sunny and warm and while walking along the river with a friend I ran into one of our guests from Stone Soup. For the first time ever, I saw him without his knit cap pulled down over his ears. Without his cap I saw he has dark brown hair, in contrast to the gray beard which was all I'd ever seen before. and I might not have recognized him at all had he not spoken to me: "Thank you, Mrs. Bernstein (his name for me), for all you do up at the Cafe." We laughed at how the sunshine changes us all. So does Stone Soup Cafe.Bread Line's Stone Soup, is non-profit human service organization which has been feeding the hungry for over 28 years. It has moved, in the last two years, from a state of crisis to a state of stability with forward momentum. I am proud to have had a hand in guiding that change.We have renovated and moved into a permanent location where we are able to serve up to 80 people in the Cafe. We have developed and continue to develop revenue streams to support the work of the Cafe. We are collaborating with other agencies to explore, with the intent of implementing, a social enterprise that will provide food service workforce development training for peoples with barriers to employment. My work is to keep us focused on the core mission of feeding the hungry and enriching lives while ensuring the on-going health of the overall organization. But I know that the thanks I received from John (not his real name) along the river this week is due only in very small part to me. I am one of the people who are helping today--there have been many before us and there will be others after. This is what I'm doing now.

Our two year Associate Degree program offers a solid foundation in culinary, management and core skills. The program currently has approximately 35 students but we are working to grow that number by offering a continually improving option for those wanting to go into the culinary field.
