Fulbright grant recipient, 2022 | Passionate educator and lifelong research nerdFrom August 2022 to June 2023 I will be in Norway doing medieval archive research on a Fulbright grant. I am a doctoral student at Texas Tech University with a research focus on eruptions of medicine in English literature and the impact of Medical Arabism upon the popular cultures of the North Sea world. I highlight the the Arabic/Islamic origins of Western medicine as part of an antiracist movement in medieval studies. I especially boost the voices of BIPOC in academia who write about medieval literature and: disability, gender studies, globalism, hemispheric studies, medieval science, medicine, gender, and LGBTQIA++ themes. Together I hope we are able to dispel the myth of European homogeneity in the Middle Ages and untangle the harm from centuries of structural racism colonialism and persecution against people of color, non-Christians, and women, especially in writings and images (mental images/imaginings) of medieval England and English literature.I currently teach literature as a Grad Instructor at Texas Tech University, and I am assistant director of the English Department's professional recording studio: Studio E, where our project includes recording oral histories from Lubbock, Texas. I am a highly qualified English teacher, and earned my certification in English Language Arts for secondary grades 8-12 in the state of Texas. In a past life I produced digital media content for Yahoo! Music and coordinated audio assets and metadata for Napster. In my "free time" I write fiction, produce a podcast about food traditions, hike, ride horses, and feed my cat.
