Leading this charge at Abenaki has been the most fulfilling volunteer opportunity of my life. Alongside a visionary Board of Directors, we’ve secured nearly a million dollars in funding to date—replacing and renovating our infrastructure, strategically adding high-performance equipment, and forging valuable sponsorship relationships throughout our community.But we’re not stopping there. We’re unlocking doors and breaking boundaries through meaningful actions, thoughtful conversations, and collaborations that push the limits of what a volunteer-driven club can achieve. We constantly seek out innovative ways to shape Abenaki’s future, ensuring we remain a pillar in Dartmouth for generations to come.Abenaki is more than just a paddling and swimming club. We offer affordable, inclusive programming for kids and adults, starting at age 2. Paddling knows no age limit, and we encourage our community to get out on the water and experience the sport. Our commitment to inclusivity is strong—we provide free programs for kids and adults with intellectual disabilities, and we’re planning to launch free para sport programming in the next 1-2 years.In my leadership role, I work with an incredible team of volunteers to manage seasonal programs, maintain fiscal health, and ensure our vision continues to evolve. We’re proving that success isn’t just about winning medals; it’s about unlocking potential and building a legacy of opportunity, growth, and impact. During my 20s, I spent an incredible decade as a Youth Director at Carnival Cruise Lines, an experience that fundamentally shaped who I became moving into my 30s and beyond. Working for a global leader in travel, I wasn’t just managing programs for young travelers—I was immersed in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that challenged me to grow, both personally and professionally.Throughout those 10 years, I had the privilege of leading international teams, recruiting talent from around the globe, and implementing innovative youth programs that left lasting impacts on our young guests. I thrived in an environment where split-second decisions were the norm, and problem-solving under pressure became second nature. Whether it was navigating new regulations, training diverse staff, or launching fresh programs, every day was an opportunity to push boundaries and raise the bar.I operated in an industry held to extremely high standards—from Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Public Health protocols to stringent Coastguard regulations. This instilled in me a meticulous attention to detail, discipline, and the ability to adapt swiftly to ever-changing global and operational demands.Carnival wasn’t just a job; it was an experience that immersed me in international travel, cross-cultural collaboration, and high-level strategic execution. My time there shaped my ability to thrive in complex environments, innovate under pressure, and deliver unforgettable experiences—skills I’ve carried forward into every role since.
