I work with the Patent Policy Branch so my main focus is on patents, however my research often touches other intellectual property areas as well. My position requires me to keep current on patent policy issues and concerns. The research that I do in this role often involves doing cross country analyses to see how other countries approach the same issues. I am responsible for preparing briefing notes for the Minister, Deputy Minister and Assistant Deputy Minister. I also prepare memoranda and PowerPoint presentations for senior analysts and management. When there is a need to change legislation or create legislation, I work with the Department of Justice to draft the legislation and I prepare documents for senior management. Show less

As a paralegal with Industry Canada Legal Services, I was responsible for doing legal research and preparing/organizing legal documents for counsel. I was the paralegal for the intellectual property law group. In this position, I carried out my duties for both advisory and litigation files. I often attended meetings with clients and counsel. In this position, I was also involved in a working group that was responsible for implementing new regulations.

As the Supervisor of Finance and Administration for Industry Canada's legal services unit, I was responsible for the budget, as well as overseeing the financial and administrative work of the office. I was also responsible for financial reporting and monitoring. I also assisted the Manager of Operations with human resources. I was responsible for leading a small team of employees.

When I was a Finance Officer with Industry Canada, my main task was to handle the billing for the legal services unit. Other tasks I had included assisting the Supervisor of Finance and Administration and Manager of Operations with human resources and reporting documents.
