I am a passionate and visionary educator dedicated to creating safe and inclusive learning environments where students flourish. With a focus on adaptive classroom environments, mental heath and wellness, and with an extensive background in alternative programming including anxiety management and remedial learning, I am dedicated to supporting students and helping them achieve success and stability one step at a time.I am currently finishing my Post Baccalaureate Diploma at the University of Winnipeg in the School Counselling Stream. My background in counselling is diverse and rich with experience. In University I was part of the Peer Support student group whose aim was to support the mental health of the student population through peer interactions. I volunteered with Klinic and worked on the suicide crisis lines as well as completed training in the sexual assault crisis program. As an educator, I have had the opportunity to teach a high school program called "Focus" which was designed as a low-enrollment alternative space for students with anxiety. My classroom was not bound by the rigid time-lines and demands of the fast paced high school classroom. It functioned as a "work at your own pace" supportive environment and the programming was individualized for each student. The student service team including counsellors, administration, resource teachers, and the "Focus Program" teachers met weekly to discuss student progress and ensure success through an organized and unique systems approach. Collaboration, communication, creativity, and flexibility were part of what made the "Focus program" model a success. I most developed a program in a middle school setting called "Foundations in Numeracy and Literacy" which was designed with the intent to reach the at-risk student population and explore remedial learning and strengthen core skills. The program was designed as a low-enrolment, alternative, non-threatening space. Students received individual programming and also had the opportunity to work on their own mental health and wellness in a space designed to support academic success. This program would not have been successful without the systems approach and close connection and collaboration with the school counsellors, resource team, and admin support.I am excited to continue my personal journey working as an educator in Manitoba. The next step in my career is to explore my passion for guidance and counselling in a school setting. I am a lifelong learner and will continue to hone my skills through professional development opportunities.
