Jennifer is a government relations and organizational strategist dedicated to Indigenous community development. She and her husband, Nick—owner of Moccasin Media, a local Indigenous-owned media company—are raising their children in Wood Buffalo, Alberta.Jennifer’s extensive experience includes roles as the Director of Government Relations and External Affairs for the Fort McKay Métis Nation and Director of Early Education and Child & Family Services with the Fort McMurray 468 First Nation. In 2018, she graduated with honors from Portage College, achieving a 3.8 GPA, and in 2023, she furthered her studies at Harvard University, completing advanced negotiation training and securing admission to their Strategic Innovation for Executive Leaders program.Throughout her career, Jennifer has made substantial community contributions. She has served as a Policy Advisor on the Treaty 8 Senior Advisory Technical Table for Indigenous Early Learning and Childcare. In 2016, she founded the First Nation Early Years Coalition, which supports Indigenous children with developmental delays in Wood Buffalo. Her leadership has extended to roles such as Chairperson of the Rural Relations & Engagement Committee and Torch Relay for the 2023 Wood Buffalo Arctic Winter Games. Jennifer also completed two terms as Director on the Regional Recreation Corporation Board of Directors, is the elected Vice Chairperson of the Wood Buffalo Development Advisory Committee, and serves as an Advisor with the Leadership Wood Buffalo Advisory Committee.Jennifer’s dedication has earned her significant recognition. In 2020, she received the Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence for advancing equitable education for Indigenous children. In 2022, she was awarded the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pin by the Government of Canada and the Leadership in Advocacy Award from Pride YMM. At 29, she was named one of Wood Buffalo’s Top 50 Under 50 in 2023, and her dedication to volunteerism earned her the Heart of Wood Buffalo Volunteerism Award of Excellence that same year.
