In my 10 years working as a registered nurse in healthcare, I have had the unique experience of practicing in this system from multiple areas, all which have brought me to a place of viewing medicine as holistic, imperative, and a human right. I started my career in the Military Healthcare system, working with active duty and veterans in several large Military Treatment Facilities. This foundation of my nursing knowledge was crucial to who I am today. Military nursing instilled in me a sense of duty and responsibility – to my patients and to my position as a patient advocate, educator, and master of nursing skills. I expanded upon this foundation once I discharged from the service by travel nursing in Intensive Care Units throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. This opportunity to practice at the forefront of medicine, in the most critical of times honed my skills as an ICU nurse – time management, prioritization, resiliency, and teamwork. Proficient in these skills, I stepped into a leadership role as a Critical Care Nurse Leader where I led nurses in their care of patients, while managing patient flow, care coordination, and highlighted safety as a priority. During this time, I led a transition program for new ICU nurses, where I educated new staff on foundations of ICU nursing – teaching pathophysiology, critical care equipment use, and medication titration. Most recently, I have stepped out of the inpatient role of nursing and into the outpatient care coordination for oncology patients. This role has developed more fully my compassion, empathy, and utilization of alternative and holistic care in conjunction with Western Medicine to achieve patient satisfaction and health. The path I have taken in medicine has left me yearning to do more for my community and bring the knowledge I have gained to further holistic treatment of patients. I am currently enrolled in Frontier Nursing University’s Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Program, and plan to serve this unique community at a time when the lack of adequate care for this group is highlighted in the news and media. I aspire to bring my skills of compassion, communication, education, and duty to this field.Key Skills:-Time management-Leadership-Prioritization-Communication-Education-Mentoring-Empathy
